How Could This Experiment be Used to Save Lives?
From the start of this experiment, it was made clear that the results of this experiment would be best analyzed in the event of a real fire. The addition of water to the isopropyl is what makes the experiment such a success. The water from the water-alcohol mixture absorbs much of the heat energy that is generated when the fabrics are ignited. The temperature of the cloth doesn't rise above the temperature needed to burn the cloth. The water is first heated to its boiling point and then vaporized by the heat of combustion from the burning alcohol. *In the event of an EPIC fire, it is suggested that one create a full body "fire blanket" by soaking overalls and a sweatshirt in a Isopropyl-water solution to avoid being disintegrated by the flames.
